Three time Formula One world champion  and Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s non Executive Chairman Niki Lauda has been released from hospital after contracting the flu following his double lung transplant.

A spokesman for the hospital where Lauda was being treated confirmed that at no point did his flu pose a risk to Lauda’s life and that use of a respirator had not been necessary.

It remains to be seen when the Austrian will be well enough to travel to Grand Prix events with the 2019 season opening Australian Grand Prix set to take place from March 15 -17.
