Peugeot’s Stephane Peterhansel says that leading the 2017 Dakar Rally at this early stage is meaningless.
The Frenchman leads his team mate Sebastien Loeb by 00:01:09 with Cyril Despres in third place in a third Peugeot. Toyota’s Nani Roma 00:05:35 behind leader Peterhansel while Mikko Hirvonen rounds out the top five for Mini.
Friday’s sixth stage of the rally was cancelled due to stormy conditions and today (Sunday) is a rest day so the action will resume on Monday with stage seven.
Following the cancellation of stage six, Dakar Rally officials released the following statement:
Considering the extreme climatic conditions and that some drivers are still on the stage course, considering that it is impossible to bring the vehicles of all participants back to the bivouac and prepare the next stage in the
best conditions, considering that people of the organisation in charge of the reco of the stage course informed that the road is impracticable, the sixth stage ORURO-LA PAZ has been cancelled.
