Liberty Media need to rip up the UK’s Formula One broadcasting contract and start again.
In 2019, live Formula One coverage will no longer be available on free to air services and will instead be exclusively live on Sky Sports F1.
Liberty Media are as their name suggests a media company and by excluding free to air broadcasting of Formula One millions of fans in the UK and Ireland will miss out.
The Sky deal was agreed under the previous ownership regime and the first thing Liberty Media should have done is rip up the broadcasting controwith Sky and said ‘no you will not have exclusive rights to Formula One’.
Paddock Eye understands that Channel 4’s coverage of highlights will not just be pulled from however we are not sure whether or not Whisper Films will continue to produce the coverage for Channel 4.
Motorsport has a huge fan base in the UK and as of 2019, the BBC will have coverage of THE ABB FIA Formula E Championship while BT Sport carries live coverage of the IndyCar Series through their affliatation with ESPN.
