The Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 TEAM”s Valtteri Bottas took a lights to flag victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku on Sunday.
Defending Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton came home second and in doing so gave Mercedes their fourth 1-2 finish in as many races.
Sebastian Vettel completed the podium in third place for Ferrari in front of Ferrari Chairman John Elkann.
Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen came home in fourth place just ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. It was a strong race for SportPesa Racing Point F1 Team’s Sergio Checo Perez as he finished the race in sixth place.
McLaren Renault’s progress continues as Carlos Sainz came home in seventh place just ahead of his team mate Lando Norris.
Lance Stroll made it both SportPesa Racing Point F1 Team cars in the top ten ending the race in ninth place. The stand out performance of the event however was Kimi Raikkonen who started the race from the pit lane and brought his car home in the points finishing 10th for Alfa Romeo Racing.
Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Alex Albon narrowly missed out on a points finish as he ended the race in eleventh place just ahead of Antonio Giovinazzi came home in 12th place in the second Alfa.
The Haas F1 Team’s Kevin Magnussen was 13th just ahead of Nico Hulkemberg’s Renault.
The Rokit Williams Racing team’s George Russell and Robert Kubica rounded out the order in 15th and 16th place respectively.
There was disappointment for Romain Grosjean, Pierre Gasly, Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo as they all retired from the race.
As a result of his win in Baku, Valtteri Bottas heads to Spain in two weeks time with a one point lead in the championship over his team mate Lewis Hamilton.
