Lotus F1 Team Principal and Chairman Gerard Lopez has revealed that although he will no longer own the Enstone outfit, Renault have asked him to remain with the team which he has agreed to do.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Lopez said:
I think we are pretty much there with Renault. I understand that Renault still have some things they need to clear with Formula 1 and FOM, but as far as we are concerned we are pretty much at a deal now.
Lopez who has been in charge of the Enstone outfit as Team Principal since the departure of Eric Boullier to McLaren in January of last year told Sky Sports that is proud of what the privateer outfit have achieved since his company Genii Capital took over the team from Renault in 2009.
Lopez was responsible for bringing Kimi Raikkonen back to Formula One at the start of the 2012 season following the Finn’s two year sabbatical, it proved to be an inspired decision for both parties as they were extremely successful, winning two Grand Prix together and scoring multiple podiums.
