Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Christian Lundgaard was the fastest on the opening day of practice for Sunday’s penultimate race of the 2023 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season at Portland.
Lundgaard set a .58.1776s ending the session just ahead of Kyle Kirkwood and championship leader Alex Palou while Pato O’Ward was fourth for Arrow McLaren.
Felix Rosenqvist was fifth just ahead of David Malukas who held up Scott Dixon at one point in the session.
Romain Grosjean was seventh just ahead of Rinus VeeKay and Alexander Rossi in eighth and ninth while Josef Newgarden rounded out the top ten.
There were three red flags during the session.
Devlin DeFrancesco had a solid session in 11th just ahead of Marcus Ericsson, Marcus Armstrong and Callum Ilott.
Juri Vips had a great opening session as an INDYCAR SERIES driver as the RLL driver was 15th just ahead of Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin and Will Power.
Graham Rahal was 18th just ahead of Scott Dixon who endured a difficult session in the No.9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.
Colton Herta rounded out the top twenty after an off track incident.
Helio Castroneves was 21st just ahead of Augustin Canapino and Benjamin Pedersen while Ryan Hunter-Reay was 24th just ahead of Santino Ferrucci, Sting Ray Robb and Tom Blomqvist.
