M Sport Ford WRC Team Principal Richard Millener says that the team decided to follow their traditional route of signing young drivers for 2020 as they look to the future in the FIA World Rally Championship. Teemu Suninen continues with the team as does Gus Greensmith while Esapekka Lappi joins the team from Citroen.
The team are running a retro livery this season and are hoping to challenge for podiums and wins this season. Speaking to Paddock Eye at Autosport International on Thursday Millener said that the team were disappointed to lose Elfyn Evans to Toyota but he understands why he decided to make the move.
Millener said that he feels that with the team being young it bodes well for the future as Teemu, Gus and Esapekka form the youngest driver pairing in the WRC for 2020.
The team did speak to other drivers who have been around for a number of years but felt that it was better to get drivers in who could be there for many years to come.
In relation to Esapekka Lappi, Millener said that the Finn brings great experience having driven to manufacturers already and he is excited to get the season underway in Monte Carlo next weekend.
