Lord and Lady March the owners of Goodwood Estate in Chichester have been targeted by a burglar who broke into their house on the estate earlier hours on Wednesday morning when a burglar broke into the couple’s home through an upstairs window before assaulting Lord March as he demanded that they open the safe.
The pair were then tied up which the burglar looted the safe and made off with approximately £700,000 in family heirlooms.
Goodwood estate plays host to the Goodwood Festival Of Speed during the summer with racing car demonstrations and timed runs up the famous Goodwood hill along with a number of other different activities over the course of the event. It gives motorsport fans the opportunity to up close and personal with their racing hero’s and it is the highlight of the motorsport calendar.
Speaking following the ordeal Lord March commented by saying:
The last 48 hours have been challenging and I would like to thank Sussex Police, my team here at Goodwood and the local and national press for their support. I am pleased to tell you that we are both recovering and entirely focused on providing the police with anything that may help recover the stolen items some of which have such personal significance and others such historical value.
A 26 year old man has been arrested and will appear in court in February as police continue their investigation. So far none of the items stolen have been recovered.
