McLaren Renault have introduced a special one off livery for this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in recognition of Fernando Alonso’s Formula One career ahead of his final Grand Prix before he retires from Formula One.
The change of livery sees the double world champions helmet colours don the engine cover of the MCL33.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown said that the team worked closely with Fernando, the FIA and the other teams on the the scheme with Brown confirming the other teams were massively supportive of the idea.
This weekend will not be Fernando’s last Grand Prix but it will also be the 314th race that he has entered.
The Spaniard insists that has absolutely no regrets about retiring from Formula One and will now be able to focus on other racing interests specifically wrapping up the 2018/19 FIA World Endurance Championship and qualifying for and winning the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 next May with McLaren.
Alonso’s driving activities for 2018 won’t stop come the chequered flag on Sunday as following the race he and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series star Jimmie Johnson will fly to Bahrain to test each others cars.
