Red Bull adviser Dr Helmut Marko has revealed that McLaren Renault have made a big offer to Daniel Ricciardo for 2019 worth in the region of £20 million per year.
Marko confirmed that the Australian is waiting to see what Lewis Hamilton does before deciding what he does. Speaking to reports ahead of this weekend’s French Grand Prix, Ricciardo said that the prospect of joining McLaren or Renault appeals to him as he would like to do what Hamilton did with Mercedes.
Red Bull announced earlier this week that they will be powered by Honda in 2019 while McLaren have Renault power.
Paddock Eye understands that if Ricciardo accepts the offer from McLaren he would replace Fernando Alonso who is set to enter the Verizon IndyCar Series full-time in 2019 with McLaren.
When pressed by the media in France on Thursday, Ricciardo refused to be drawn on the speculation regarding his Formula One future.
