Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin in the No.2 Shell V Power Chevrolet showed on Saturday that he deserves a full time drive in the NTT IndyCar Series in 2021 as he drove brilliantly to take his maiden NTT IndyCar Series victory in the Honda Indy Grand Prix Of Alabama presented by AmFirst at Barber Motorsports Park IndyCar Series iRacing Challenge.
McLaughlin started the 45 lap race from eighth place and took victory using a two stop strategy to take victory just ahead of his team mate Will Power.
The 26 year old New Zealander is due to make his NTT IndyCar Series race debut this year in the No.2 Shell V Power Chevrolet however due to the global COVID 19 global pandemic that debut had been put on hold as the start of the 2020 season has been delayed until at least the end of May.
McLaughlin is expected to join Team Penske full time in the NTT IndyCar Series in 2021 but one of their three drivers will have to make room for McLaughlin as Paddock Eye believes that Roger Penske is unlikely to extend his operation to a four car full time effort.
McLaughlin’s race on Saturday and his performances during his NTT IndyCar Series tests with Team Penske are a great audition for a full time drive in 2021.
