The Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team led the way on the opening day of action on Friday ahead of Sunday’s season opening Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park.
Hamilton ended the day fastest just ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel who recovered from a DRS problem this morning to end the day in second place just ahead of Valtteri Bottas.
Kimi Raikkonen was fourth fastest for Ferrari. The Iceman ended the session just ahead of Red Bull Racing’s hometown hero Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen.
Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz did a great job for the Italian team ending the day in seventh place just ahead of the Haas F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean.
Nico Hulkenberg was ninth fastest for the Renault Sport F1 Team while Daniil Kvyat rounded out the top ten for Toro Rosso.
Sergio Perez was 11th fastest for Force India just ahead of McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso. Esteban Ocon was 13th fastest just ahead of Williams Martini Racing’s Felipe Massa.
The Brazilian could only manage 6 laps after hitting the wall bringing his session to a premature end.
Marcus Ericsson was 15th for the Sauber F1 Team just ahead of Lance Stroll who is competing in his first Geand Prix this weekend was 16th just ahead of McLaren Honda’s Stoffel Vandoorne.
Pascal Werhlein who has been given the green light to race on Sunday was 18th just ahead of the Haas F1 Team’s Kevin Magnussen while Jolyon Palmer rounded out the order after bringing out the red flag following a crash.
