Mission Winnow, one of the brands associated with Philip Morris International may disappear from Scuderia Ferraei next season according to the Prancing Horse’s Team Principal Mattia Binotto.
Philip Morris International is one of the longest serving sponsors in Formula One having been with Ferrari since 1973.
Marlboro became title sponsor of Ferrari in Formula One ahead of the 1997 season.
Philip Morris International has been involved with the Italian team ever since and remained with the outfit despite the ban on tobacco sponsorships ahead of the 2007 season.
Binotto has confirmed that while Mission Winnow may disappear from the Ferrari cars driven by Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc next season, Philip Morris International may remain involved with the team.
Tobacco sponsorship was prevalent in Formula One during the 1990’s and early 2000’s with Winfield, Mild Seven, West, PMI, British American Tobacco and Benson & Hedges all involved in tobacco sponsorship.
Paddock Eye understands that discussions are ongoing with Philip Morris International given that their sponsorship agreement concludes at the end of this season.
