Fernando Alonso ticked off another piece of motorsport’s triple crown on Sunday as he took victory for Toyota Gazoo Racing at the 86th LeMans 34 Hours in the No.8 TS050 Hybrid meaning now he has won the Monaco Grand Prix and LeMans marking two out of three for his aim of securing the triple crown, the final piece of the puzzle is winning the Indianapolis 500.

The double Formula One world champion competed in last years Indianapolis 500 and taking to Twitter following Alonso’s LeMans win Verizon IndyCar Series team owner Michael Andretti with who Alonso drove for at Indy said:

Way to go on completing two thirds of your life time goals in winning the 24 hours of Le Mans! One more goal to go!

Alonso has been linked with a full-time switch to the Verizon IndyCar Series with McLaren for next season with the Woking based outfit exploring their options for entering IndyCar next season which would allow Alonso to compete defend his LeMans title in 2019 as a number of Verizon IndyCar Series drivers competed in this year.
