Team Penske’s Juan Pablo Montoya has confirmed that he will not compete in the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil next month.

Penske announced last year that he would just four cars in the most famous motor race in the world in 2018 with three time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves returning to join series champion Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud and Will Power at the Brickyard.

Penske had said that Montoya was free to compete for another team however Schmidt Peterson Motorsports team co-owner Sam Schmidt has confirmed that he was blocked from signing Montoya for the month of May.

Montoya has now confirmed however that he is fully focused on winning the IMSA Whether Tech championship with the Team Penske Acura and achieving Motorsports triple crown when he makes his Leman debut with United Autosport in June.
