The 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season is a big one for Team Penske and Juan Pablo Montoya.
The Colombian goes into this season as the defending Indianapolis 500 champion having come through the field at last years event to take a memorable victory at the Brickyard (his second 500 win in three attempts).
Montoya also heads to this weekend’s season opener, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg hoping to repeat his victory there from last season.
On Monday, the former Formula One driver was a guest of ESPN’s Sports Center and speaking on the show he stated:
It’s exciting with the start of the season, This is a great way to promote the season and get the noise out about it. The timing is very good.
It is a big year for Penske as they celebrate their 50th anniversary in IndyCar and Montoya will be hoping that he can defend his Indianapolis 500 title on May 29 as history will be made at the Speedway as it is the 100th edition of the event and for a Penske driver to win the race in the team’s 50th year would be a huge triumph for Roger ‘The Captain’ Penske.
