The following update comes from the opening morning of Rally Italia Sardegna.

Car #1 S. Ogier – J. Ingrassia (Toyota Yaris WRC): “It was like expected. It is a nice stage honestly, very beautiful profile. I tried
to enjoy it, but I know I am going to lose a lot of time”
Car #33 E. Evans – S. Martin (Toyota Yaris WRC): “I did not have the best stage to be honest. I struggled to find a good rhythm,
not really that smooth, we need to improve in the next one for sure”
Car #11 T. Neuville – M.Wydaeghe (Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC): “No issues but I just couldn’t really attack, I did not feel the
precision you need in there and we have to work a bit on that. I did not feel to push more”
Car #8 O. Tänak – M. Järveoja (Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC): “We are here, and generally it is not so bad but this is very open and
there was already a lot of dust. Race control please be smart, the next one is in the forest and it might be very dangerous. I
would say it makes sense to be clever this time.”
Car #69 K. Rovanpera – J. Halttunen (Toyota Yaris WRC): “I think the target is to enjoy these stages a bit more and get a better
feeling in the car. It was difficult to start in these conditions. It is a good start, quite careful, but let’s keep it on like this”
Car #18 T. Katsuta – D. Barritt (Toyota Yaris WRC): “I try to survive this rally and get as much experience as possible in this very
tough rally. That is the main target for me, let’s see what I can do”
Car #6 D. Sordo – B. Rozada (Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC): “The feeling was quite OK, maybe I was a bit too careful because of
the tyres. Maybe we were a bit too slow. We are checking pace notes and all, it is a new stage. But honestly everything was
Car #44 G. Greensmith – C. Patterson (Ford Fiesta WRC): “I just could not trust my notes I have been struggling quite a lot and
made mistakes. I am going to improve”
Car #3 T. Suninen – M. Markkula (Ford Fiesta WRC): “” [OUT, crew are OK. Put the car back on 4 wheels and tried to restart but
could not get the car back on the road]
Car #7 P.L. Loubet – F. Haut-Labourdette (Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC): “We tried to get a clean run, very carefully, building the
confidence step by step. I was driving a bit slowly but it is important to get the confidence”
Car #20 A. Mikkelsen – O. Floene (Skoda Fabia Evo): “It felt good, not optimal tyre choice for this stage but I did my best with
what I have. It’s a tricky loop with the second pass and we need to be clever in this rally. I have done a lot of mistakes in the
past. It is a long rally. But I had a clean run and it was OK”
Car #21 M. Bulacia – M. Ohannesian (Skoda Fabia Evo): “We are here to have a good result, I have experience here in
Sardinia. This stage was really nice, the car was a bit slow because it was almost all uphill. The feeling was good, we took it a
bit easy but the time is good and I am happy”
Car #22 M. Ostberg – T. Eriksen (Citroen C3): “It is feeling a bit strange to be honest, I feel like a bit of lack of power. But maybe
it is just a lot of sand and the car is really heavy. Did anybody mention this? [Bulacia] OK, I have the same feeling as Bulacia, it
feels very slow”
Car #5 N. Gryazin – K. Aleksandrov (Volkswagen Polo GTI): “It is quite sandy I would say. It feels like there is no traction on
acceleration, which is quite uncommon. I will take a look now at what is happening. The setup is for performance but I felt quite
like a comfort zone. It is just the beginning.” [tyre off the rim]
Car #23 A. Fourmaux – R. Jamoul (Ford Fiesta): “[After WRC+] It just feels slow but it is just because it is another category. We
just need to find the pace, it was not so bad in this stage. After eight months, on this gravel we just need to find our pace.
