We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Desert Diamond West Valley, Bringing INDYCAR to PIR was a substantial goal of ours and this demonstrates the strong local support we have for the upcoming race right here in the valley. We look forward to showcasing INDYCAR here under the lights on April 2 alongside our new partner.
Andy Asselin, CEO of Desert Diamond Casinos and Entertainment commented by saying:
We are very excited to be partnering with PIR on the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix, Both PIR and Desert Diamond offer unique entertainment opportunities to the community, so it just made sense to work together on this fantastic race.
Speaking to Paddock Eye on Monday, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe commented on the return of Phoenix to the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule by saying:
The track is obviously pretty unique for us it’s kind of a weird hybrid of Milwaukee, Iowa and Pocono all in one, and the series hasn’t raced there in quiet some time about ten years and going back you know we tested there as a group at the end of February and it’s fast! It’s incredibly fast, incredibly physical but at the same time it’s very difficult to race on so you know it’s going to be a tricky race, very easy to make a mistake and as always it’s going to be the team and driver that make the fewest mistakes that will end up on top and there is no reason why the No.5 car can’t be that guy.
