The Verizon IndyCar Series returns to Gateway Motorsports Park this weekend for the first time since 2003.

The Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Valvoline is one of most eagerly anticipated events of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season.

The night race on an oval will make for incredible racing especially with the circuit having been repaved.

In recent weeks the Verizon IndyCar Series sent a number of teams and drivers down to Gateway Motorsports Park to test the new surface in order to provide feedback for the series.

Three drivers on the current grid were in the field the last time the series visited Gateway in 2003, Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon have all raced here.

Gateway Motorsports Park marks the second of a triple header having raced at Pocono Raceway last weekend with the ABC Supply 500 won by Will Power.

The final race in the triple header is the IndyCar Grand Prix at the Glen which was won by Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon last season.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden heads into this weekend’s race with an 18 point lead over Scott Dixon in the race for the championship.
