Channel 4 have announced that they have reached a deal with BSKYB that will see them broadcast the 2019 British Grand Prix live on free to air.
In the new deal, Channel 4 will show highlights of the remaining 20 races. Channel 4 were due to lose the rights to Formula One at the end of this season after former commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone had reached an agreement with Sky to become the exclusive Formula One broadcaster in the UK from 2019.
The new agreement between Sky and Channel 4 is just to do with Formula One however as the Sky TV series Tin Star which be broadcast on Channel 4. Sky Chief Executive Stephen Van Rooyan commented on the news saying:
Today’s partnership is the start of a new era of collaboration between Sky, Channel 4 and, we hope, other British broadcasters.
Alex Mahon, Chief Executive of Channel 4 said she was delighted with the new exciting and innovative partnership.
Channel 4 will show this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix live.
