Ed Carpenter Racing confirmed on Thursday that Josef Newgarden who less than two weeks ago broke his right collarbone and fractured his right wrist in a crash at Texas Motor Speedway during the Firestone 600 has been cleared to participate in Friday’s practice sessions ahead of Sunday’s Kohler Grand Prix at the Road America circuit.

Should Newgarden be unable to race on Sunday, Ed Carpenter Racing have JR Hildebrand ready to drive the No.21 Direct Supply Chevrolet.

Newgarden has be receiving treatment for his injuries at Indiana Orthopedic Hospital from IndyCar consultant Dr Kevin Sheid.
