Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Astemo Chevrolet was the pace-setter in Sunday’s race day warm up at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix. Newgarden set a fastest time of 01:02.0463s ending the session just ahead of pole-sitter Colton Herta in the No.26 Gainbridge with Curb Honda for Andretti Global.
Pato O’Ward was third fastest just ahead of Scott McLaughlin while Pietro Fittipaldi had a great morning for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in fifth place just ahead of Marcus Armstrong and Alex Palou.
Christian Lundgaard was eighth fastest just ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyffin Simpson in the No.4 Journie Rewards Honda who set a 01:02.9056s while Graham Rahal in the No.15 iPacket RLL Honda rounded out the top ten.
Alexander Rossi was 11th for Arrow McLaren just ahead of Rinus VeeKay and Arrow McLaren’s Theo Pourchaire while Agustin Canapino was 14th for Juncos Hollinger Racing. Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda was 15th with a time of 01:03.3855s while Marcus Ericsson was 16th for Andretti Global just ahead of Felix Rosenqvist and Kyle Kirkwood.
Romain Grosjean was 19th just ahead of Linus Lundqvist who rounded out the top twenty for Chip Ganassi Racing just ahead of Christian Rasmussen and Will Power while the returning Tristan Vautier was 23rd for Dale Coyne Racing just ahead of Sting Ray Robb and Santino Ferrucci.
Dale Coyne Racing’s Jack Harvey and Helio Castroneves of Meyer Shank Racing rounded out the order.
