Ed Carpenter Racing’s Josef Newgarden has revealed that he is hoping to get the all clear to race at the Kohlers Grand Prix at Road America in Wisconsin this weekend despite suffering a fractured shoulder and wrist last time out in Texas following an accident with Dale Coyne Racing’s Conor Daly.
Ed Carpenter Racing have confirmed that JR Hildebrand will fill in for Newgarden this weekend should Newgarden be unable to race.
Newgarden is expected to meet with his surgeon on Tuesday to find out what the next course of action will be however although he is hoping to race at Road America it is likely he will miss the event with JR Hildebrand driving the No.21 Fuzzy’s Chevrolet.
It is possible however that the 25 year old could be cleared to race at the following event in Iowa which takes place from July 8-10.
Newgarden would also have to receive clearance from the Verizon IndyCar Series before being allowed to race.
