Josef Newgarden joined his Penske team mate Helio Castroneves at the Road America circuit on Monday as he tested for his new team for the first time.
It was confirmed last week that Newgarden will join Team Penske replacing Juan Pablo Montoya in the No.2 Chevrolet in 2017. Newgarden had an incredible 2016 campaign with Ed Carpenter Racing, finishing the season in fourth place in the Verizon IndyCar Series championship standings behind his new team mate’s Simon Pagenaud, Will Power and Helio Castroneves.
Newgarden took one win this season which came at the Iowa Corn 300 where he completely dominated the race despite suffering from a fractured clavicle and wrist.
Verizon IndyCar Series champion Simon Pagenaud took to Twitter on Monday to welcome Newgarden to the team tweeting:
Newgarden, Castroneves and Pagenaud are in action at Road America today as preparations for the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series get underway.
