Josef Newgarden has been extremely quick to get up to speed with his new surroundings at Team Penske.
The Tennessee native has been extremely impressive and consistent in 2017 and has worked extremely hard with his three team mate’s, Will Power, Helio Castroneves and reigning series champion Simon Pagenaud.
Neegarden has stated that he feels that the team work well together as he continues to gel with his No.2 crew.
At the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio sports car course over the weekend, Newgarden started on the front row alongside team mate Will Power.
The Tennessee native took the lead on lap 16 having made a great strategy call with Cindric and from there he never looked back dominating the race becoming the first driver this season to win three races.
Newgarden heads to the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway next month leading the Verizon IndyCar Series championship for the first time in his career.
Newgarden leads team mate Helio Castroneves by seven points with just four races remaining in 2017.
Newgarden’s rise to the top of the Verizon IndyCar Series championship is down to the fact that he is extremely quick and the changes that ‘The Captain’ made over the off season moving Team Penske president Tim Cindric over to lead the No.2 crew having been calling the shots for Will Power.
