Fernando Alonso has confirmed that he will not compete in the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil in 2018.

It was confirmed on Thursday that Alonso has signed a new multi-year contract extension with McLaren in Formula One.

Speaking in Austin ahead of this weekend’s US Grand Prix the double world champion said that his priority is perform well in Formula One and he will compete in the Monaco Grand Prix.

Alonso went on to say he will return to race in the Indianapolis 500 one day but has not given a time frame on when that will be.
