McLaren have refused to comment on media speculation that they are about to split from engine partner Honda.
Reports emerged from the UK on Thursday that following another tough winter test programme that McLaren have sounded out rivals Mercedes about a customer supply deal.
It has been suggested that McLaren could potentially receive the Mercedes engines that were ear marked for Manor.
Any potential split from Honda could prove costly to both parties as McLaren who at this point in time do not have a title sponsor would have to finance a buy out of their contract also they would lose the financial support from Honda.
Paddock Eye understands that Fernando Alonso who is into his final year of a three year deal with the Woking based outfit will wait until midway through the season to decide his future.
Any Mercedes deal could hinge on Alonso heading to Brackley although this is speculation and is NOT going to happen as McLaren are likely to have first refusal on Alonso.
