Hyundai Motorsport WRC Team Principal Andrea Adamo says the outfit’s day was not how they hoped it would be after rally Italia leader Ott Tanak was forced to retire from the event and speaking following the action, Adamo commented saying:
For sure it has not been the kind of day that we wish for and work so hard and passionately for. After Portugal, we are again not bringing back home the sort of results that we should be. We have to remain focused on the job in hand. That means getting three cars ready for the final day and salvaging what we can. We then have to catch up fast from the next event – immediately – because performances and results like these are unacceptable. The worst thing we can do in these moments is to try and find a scapegoat, to apportion blame or to point fingers; we have to stay calm, try to understand where we need to improve and keep going. It’s been a disheartening day but tomorrow we go again.
There was disappointment for Dani Sordo as he was forced to retire from the day’s action and speaking following the run today the Spaniard said:
The second day of Rally Italia Sardegna did not go to plan for us. We were involved in a battle for second place but were forced to retire on the penultimate stage. We hit a stone outside the road, something we didn’t see during the recce. We are really disappointed, not only for ourselves, but for the whole team, but sometimes these things happen in rally, and it’s like that. We will now concentrate on what we can achieve tomorrow to try and score some points in the Power Stage.”
Thierry Neuville is currently third overall and will be hoping to score as many points as possible on Sunday as Hyundai aim for a strong finish the event.
The gap to Elfyn Evans in second place is quite big. I tried to get closer to him on some stages, but I just didn’t have the speed I needed. We tried some settings, changing the dampers among other things, but we couldn’t get everything working together as we needed. I struggled to find the performance despite having the feeling of being on the edge. I haven’t been able to do much more, but tomorrow we will try our hardest and see what we can save from this weekend.
