Defending World Rally Champion and current leader Sebastien Ogier was at the Red Bull Ring on Wednesday as a guest of the Red Bull Racing Formula One Team to take part in a very special test.
The Frenchman who drives for M-Sport in the World Rally Championship was given the opportunity to drive the Red Bull Bull RB7 around the Austrian Grand Prix circuit.
Ogier, who is enjoying the World Rally Championship summer break was joined by former Formula One driver turned commentator David Coulthard who still works with Red Bull. The Scot guided Ogier through the process of driving a Formula One car which as you can imagine is completely different to what Ogier is used to with his Ford Fiesta WRC.
Speaking following the test, an excited Ogier commented by saying:
As a kid I was watching (Ayrton) Senna, he was my idol, and of course I was dreaming one day to try this kind of car. “For a racing driver to have fun you need to be fast and a Formula One car is the fastest car you can drive, so of course every racing driver wants to feel that one day.”
The RB7, driven by Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber in 2011 produced 12 wins for the Milton Keynes based outfit and both the Drivers and Constructors championship with Sebastian Vettel winning his second of four championships to date.
David Coulthard commented following the test by saying:
When you are used to rally, you have a lot more cockpit space but with a Grand Prix car it is a much more compact and hostile environment.
