NTT INDYCAR SERIES and IMS Medical Director Dr. Julia Vaizer says that the AMR safety team that travels with the series to every race travel day in day out to ensure they are ready for situations like we saw with Stefan Wilson on Monday.
The Dreyer and Reinbold Racing with Cusick Motorsports driver will miss Sunday’s 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge after suffering a fracture to his 12th Thoracic virtabrae.
The AMR Safety team were on the scene with Stefan Wilson and Katherine Legge within second of the accident and took their time in extracting both drivers from their race cars.
The AMR Safety team are made up of paramedics and firefighters and they know all of the drivers which is fantastic so when they arrive on the scene of an accident like yesterday they know each driver individually.
In his last update from Monday, team owner Don Cusick said:
Last update for tonight. Cusick Motorsports and Dreyer and Reinbold Racing will have a major announcement at 10:00 am EDT tomorrow. Announcing our replacement driver for the 500. I’ve tried to answer each message from all you wonderful people, your comments are so appreciated. I’ll give you an update on Stefan tomorrow after I visit him. Much love and thanks to each of you. Tough day but your comments really help. ❤️
