Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward in the No.5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet led the way in practice two ahead of qualifying for the Acura Grand Prix Prix of Long Beach on Saturday, having set a time of 01:05.9982s ending up just ahead of Andretti AUtosport’s Kyle Kirkwood, Romain Grosjean and Colton Herta.
Scott McLaughlin in the No.3 Sonsio Team Penske Chevrolet was fifth fastest with a time of 01:06.1870s, while Felix Rosenqvist was sixth fastest for Arrow McLaren.
Six-time series champion and 2015 Long Beach race winner Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda was seventh fastest, just ahead of his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate’s Marcus Ericsson in the No.8 Huski Chocolate Honda and Alex Palou in the No.10 Ridgeline Lubricants Honda.
Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet rounded out the top ten. Graham Rahal had a solid session in the No.15 United Rentals Honda as he ended the session in 11th place, just ahead of Dale Coyne Racing’s David Malukas in the No.18 HMD Honda.
Simon Pagenaud in the No.60 Sirius XM Honda was P13 just ahead of Will Power and Marcus Armstrong. The session was a real start-stop affair as several drivers were caught out by the curbs at Turn 5, namely, Callum Ilott, who brought out a red flag. Rinus VeeKay also brought out the red flag in his No.21 BitNile Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet.
Helio Castroneves was 17th, just ahead of Jack Harvey and Devlin DeFrancesco, while Alexander Rossi rounded out the top 20. Agustin Canapino was 21st just ahead of Christian Lundgaard and Santino Ferrucci while Sting Ray Robb was 24th having gone off track briefly. Conor Daly and Benjamin Pedersen were 25th and 26th respectively while Callum Ilott rounded out the order.
