Simon Pagenaud who won the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series championship in Sonoma last weekend visited Team Penske’s HQ in Mooresville, North Carolina on Friday.
Following a busy week of media appearances after claiming his first Verizon IndyCar Series title, Pagenaud and Team Penske president Tim Cindric returned to North Carolina to celebrate the win with Team Penske staff.
Pagenaud capped off a fantastic 2016 season in Sonoma last weekend, completing dominating the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, the Frenchman secured his seventh Verizon P1 Award of the season on Saturday before dominating the race on Sunday winning the race ahead of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal and his Penske team mate Juan Pablo Montoya.
Pagenaud won five races this season on his way to the championship, but not only that, Roger Penske secured a team 1,2,3 in the title race in his 60 year in motorsport. Will Power in the No.12 Verizon finished the season as runner up to Pagenaud while Helio Castroneves finished the year in third place.
Team Penske drivers won 10 of the 16 Verizon IndyCar Series races with three of Penske’s drivers. Juan Pablo Montoya, Simon Pagenaud and Will Power all taking victories in 2016.
