Reigning Verizon IndyCar Series champion Simon Pagenaud in the No.1 Menards Chevrolet ended the final practice session at Iowa Speedway as the fastest driver. The Team Penske driver set a fastest speed of 179.617MPH ending the session just ahead of Ed Carpenter.
Iowa Corn 300 pole sitter Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet was third fastest just ahead of current series points leader Scott Dixon in the No.9 NTT DATA Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing.
Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Fitzgerald Glider Kits Chevrolet for Team Penske ended the session in fifth place just ahead of Tony Kanaan in the No.10 NTT DATA Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing. Graham Rahal in the No.15 Gehl Honda for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing ended the session seventh place.
Helio Castroneves in the No.3 Hitachi Chevrolet for Team Penske ended the day in eighth place just ahead of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Mikhail Aleshin in the No.7 Lucas Oil Honda while Alexander Rossi in the No.98 Curb Honda rounded out the top ten.
Andretti Autosport’s Takuma Sato in the No.26 #CheckIt4Andretti Honda was 11th fastest just ahead of Ed Carpenter Racing’s JR Hildebrand while James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Honda for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports ended the session in 13th place. It was a good session for Esteban Gutierrez who continues to get up to speed on ovals as the Mexican driving the No.18 Unifin Honda for Dale Coyne Racing ended the session in 14th place.
Ed Jones was 15th fastest in the No.19 Boy Scouts of America Honda for Dale Coyne Racing just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda.
Carlos Munoz was 17th for AJ Foyt Racing ended the session just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Marco Andretti in the No.27 Honda. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Max Chilton in the No.8 Gallagher Honda ended the session in 19th place just ahead of his team mate Charlie Kimball in the No.83 Tresiba® Honda while Conor Daly rounded out the order in 21st place for AJ Foyt Racing.
