Verizon IndyCar Series points leader Simon Pagenaud led a Team Penske 1,2,3 in an eventful second practice session on the streets of Toronto ahead of Sunday’s Honda Indy Toronto. The Frenchman set a fastest time of 01:01.7081s ending the session just ahead of team mate Helio Castroneves and Will Power.
Reigning series champion Scott Dixon in the No.9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet was fourth fastest while home favourite James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Electronics Honda was fifth fastest.
Sebastien Bourdais who set the fastest time this morning was sixth fastest for the KVSH Racing team in the No.11 Hydroxycut Chevrolet.
Tony Kanaan in the No.10 NTT DATA Chevrolet was seventh fastest overall with Graham Rahal ending the session in eighth place for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing setting a time of 01:02.5353s with Andretti Autosport’s Carlos Munoz in ninth place.
Jack Hawksworth in the No.41 ABC Supply Co AJ Foyt Racing Honda rounded out the top ten just ahead of Conor Daly.
Luca Filippi in the No.19 Dale Coyne Racing Honda was 12th fastest just ahead of Mikhail Aleshin who brought out a brief red flag as a result of a spin. Takuma Sato was 14th fastest for AJ Foyt Racing just ahead of Marco Andretti while Josef Newgarden was 16th fastest.
Juan Pablo Montoya in the No.2 Devilbliss Chevrolet was 17th fastest despite bringing out the red flag early in the session after making a mistake and putting his car into the wall.
Spencer Pigot was 18th fastest for Ed Carpenter Racing just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter Reay and Alexander Rossi. Charlie Kimball was 21st fastest for Chip Ganassi Racing after hitting the wall hard at the same spot as Montoya while his team mate Max Chilton rounded out the order in 22nd place.
