The Frenchman set a fastest time of 01:09.9079s ending the session just ahead of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal and Marco Andretti with Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves in third place.
Max Chilton in the No.8 Gallagher Honda was the fastest of Chip Ganassi Racing’s four cara ending the session in fifth place just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Marco Andretti.
Josef Newgarden was seventh in the No.2 PPG Automotive Refinish Chevrolet for Team Penske just ahead of Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda for Andretti Autosport.
Championship leader and five time Mid-Ohio winner Scott Dixon was ninth fastest in the No.9 NTT DATA Honda just ahead of Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot in the No.20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet.
Alexander Rossi who finished on the podium last time out in Toronto ended the session just outside the top ten in 11th jist ahead of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Honda
Mikhail Aleshin on his return to the cockpit after a weekend off was 13th in the No.7 Lucas Oil Honda.
Ed Jones was 14th fastest for Dale Coyne Racing just ahead of AJ Foyt Racing’s Carlos Munoz and Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato in the No.26 Rouff Home Mortgages Honda for Andretti Autosport.
Conor Daly was 17th fastest in the No.4 ABC Supply Co Chevrolet for AJ Foyt Racing ending the session just ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Charlie Kimball and Tony Kanaan. JR Hildebrand was 20th for Ed Carpenter Racing while Esteban Gutierrez rounded out the order for Dale Coyne Racing.
