It was a great session for AJ Foyt Racing’s Tony Kanaan in the No.14 ABC Supply Chevrolet as the Brazilian set a fastest speed of 182.313MPH.
Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg race winner Sebastien Bourdais in the No.18 SealMaster Honda for Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser Sullivan Racing ended the session in third place with a speed of 182.138MPH. Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda ended the session in fourth place just ahead of his team mate Alexander Rossi in the No.27 MilitaryToMotorsports Honda.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe with a speed of 181.824MPH ending the session just ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ed Jones in the No.10 NTT DATA Honda.
Defending series champion Josef Newgarden in the No.1 Verizon Chevrolet for Team Penske was eighth fastest just ahead of AJ Foyt Racing’s Matheus Leist in the No.4 ABC Supply Co Chevrolet while St Pete pole sitter Robert Wickens in the No.6 Lucas Oil Honda rounded out the top ten.
Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing with a speed of 179.517MPH.
Will Power was 12th fastest in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet for Team Penske just ahead of Juncos Racing’s Kyle Kaiser in the No.32 Chevrolet. Pietro Fittipaldi was 14th fastest in the No.19 Paysafe Honda for Dale Coyne Racing.
Marco Andretti in the No.98 Oberto Beef Jerky Honda was 15th fastest just ahead of Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot in the No.21 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet. Graham Rahal in the No.15 One Cure Honda was 17th fastest for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing just ahead of his team mate Takuma Sato in the No.30 Honda.
Harding Racing’s Gabby Chaves in the No.88 Chevrolet ended the session in 19th place just ahead of Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Carpenter in the No.20 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet.
Andretti Autosport’s Zach Veach was 21st fastest just ahead of Carlin Racing’s Charlie Kimball and Max Chilton who rounded out the order.
