Reigning Verizon IndyCar Series champion Simon Pagenaud was left furious with his Penske team mate Josef Newgarden following Saturday night’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500.
In the closing stages of the race at Gateway Motorsports Park, Newgarden overtook Pagenaud for the lead of the race but in doing so the pair made light contact.
The resulting contact saw Pagenaud run wide and lose second place in the race to Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon.
Following Sunday’s race, Pagenaud heads to the IndyCar Grand Prix at The Glen this weekend 43 points behind Newgarden with just two races remaining this season.
Speaking following the race, Pagenaud said that he no longer trusts Newgarden who goes to Watkins Glen leading the championship by 31 points.
