Championship leader Alex Palou in the No.10 The American Legion Chip Ganassi Racing Honda can win his second NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship at World Wide Technology Raceway next time out.
If the Spaniard leaves the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 on August 17, leading the championship by 108 points, he is crowned champion with two races remaining.
At the moment, following Saturday’s Gallagher Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the IMS road course in which Scott Dixon scored his first win of the season, Palou leads the championship by 101 points over Dixon and 105 points from Josef Newgarden who finished the race in 25th place.
Palou has had a phenomenal season, winning four races and scoring eight podium finishes. Speaking following Saturday’s Gallagher Grand Prix of Indianapolis, he said:
“It was a busy day and a very busy first couple of laps. We played an aggressive strategy which worked really well on the first couple of stints. Then, when we wanted to go fast on the better tire, we didn’t make it work. We had some issues with tire degradation, but it was a solid day for us on the championship side. It was an amazing day for Scott winning the race today.”
