Alex Palou, driver of the No.10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, has had the best start to an INDYCAR SERIES season since AJ Foyt in 1964. The Spaniard has won five of the opening seven races of the 2025 season, including the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge last month.

Palou retired from the last race, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, last weekend with Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood, the only other driver to have won a race this season, taking victory in the Motor City.

Palou is well on his way to his fourth series championship in five seasons. The Spaniard heads to World Wide Technology Raceway for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 in St Louis with a 90-point lead in the championship standings over Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward.

Palou’s championship lead of 90 points over Pato O’Ward is the same points differential between second in the championship and 10th. Currently, if Palou maintains his upward trend, he can win the title in Portland on August 10, with two races remaining.

Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix sponsor Scott Borchetta believes that Palou will wrap up the championship before the season-ending race in Nashville at the end of August. However, speaking during an INDYCAR conference call this week, Borchetta said that even if Palou wins the championship early like he did last season, the 2025 INDYCAR season will be celebrated regardless, because the race for second place in the championship is close, with just 36 points separating Pato O’Ward in second and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in seventh.
