Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou was fastest in the opening practice session at the Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course on Friday. The Spaniard set a fastest time of 01:07.0650s ending the session just ahead of Alexander Rossi and Marcus Armstrong.
In a rain-impacted session, Colton Herta was fourth just ahead of Scott McLaughlin and Graham Rahal while Pato O’Ward was seventh just ahead of Felix Rosenqvist and Kyle Kirkwood while Will Power rounded out the top ten for Team Penske. David Malukas was 11th just ahead of Josef Newgarden and Kyffin Simpson while Linus Lundqvist was 14th just ahead of Nolan Siegel and Romain Grosjean.
Christian Lundgaard was 17th just ahead of Marcus Ericsson and Soctt Dixon while Pietro Fittipaldi set the 20th time of the day with a time of 01:08.7307s while Toby Sowery was 21st just ahead of Jack Harvey and Rinus VeeKay who was 21st having suffered a gearbox issue. Santino Ferrucci was 24th just ahead of Christian Rasmussen and Agustin Canapino who suffered a suspected engine failure while Sting Ray Robb rounded out the order in 27th.
