Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou, in the No.10 DHL Honda, was fastest on Monday of Indianapolis 500 race week, as qualifying overshadows race week. The Spaniard set a speed of 226.765MPH.
Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves in the No.06 Cliffs Honda was second fastest with a speed of 226.441MPH. At the same time, Takuma Sato backed up his great qualifying effort for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing as he was third fastest with a speed of 226.087MPH. At the same time, it was an excellent day for Dreyer and Reinbold Racing with Cusick Motorsports as Jack Harvey in the No.24 INVST Chevrolet was fourth fastest with a speed of 226.048MPH.
In the No.23 Chevrolet, Ryan Hunter-Reay was fifth fastest, just ahead of Nolan Siegel and the Team Penske duo of Will Power and Josef Newgarden. Christian Rasmussen was ninth for Ed Carpenter Racing while Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Conor Daly in the No.76 ampm Chevrolet rounded out the top ten with a speed of 225.191MPH.
Kyle Larson had a solid session for Arrow McLaren, ending the day in 11th place just ahead of Pato O’Ward and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda, who suffered an overheating hybrid.
AJ Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferrucci was 14th just ahead of his teammate, David Malukas. Felix Rosenqvist was 16th, just ahead of Alexander Rossi and Marcus Ericsson, while Callum Ilott was 19th. Devlin DeFrancesco was 20th for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, just ahead of Kyle Kirkwood and Colton Herta.
Louis Foster was 23rd, just ahead of Marco Andretti and Ed Carpenter. Pole-sitter Robert Schwartzman was 26th just ahead of Rinus VeeKay and Marcus Armstrong.
Sting Ray Robb was 29th just ahead of Graham Rahal and Scott McLaughlin, while Kyffin Simpson and Christian Lundgaard rounded out the order in 33rd. The next and final practice is Carb Day on Friday, ahead of Sunday’s Greatest Spectacle In Racing.
