Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou, driver of the No.10 Ridgeline Lubricants Honda extended his lead in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion to 51 points over his teammate Marcus Ericsson in the No.8 Huski Iced Spritz Honda following Sunday’s Detroit Grand Prix.
The Spaniard became the second repeat winner of the season following his victory in last month’s GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the IMS road course.
Speaking following his victory on Sunday, Palou said:
The No. 10 Ridgeline Lubricants car was on point today. Honda gave us everything we needed in fuel mileage and all the power. I am super proud of the job we did. It was tricky at the end with those tires, I couldn’t really get them up to temperature but I am proud that we got another win this year. It’s still too early to think about the championship. We’ll keep focused on the next few races—there’s a few that I really love coming up. We’ll keep on pushing.”
Palou’s victory on Sunday was his seventh career win and his first victory on a street circuit.
It will be interesting to see how Palou does for the rest of the season and if he does go on to win his second championship he will have a decision to make as he is set leave Chip Ganassi Racing to join Arrow McLaren in 2024.
