Defending NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion and current points leader Alex Palou in the No.10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda is an Indianapolis 500 champion.
In a chaotic 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge which was delayed due to rain, Palou, who started the race from sixth becomes the first Spaniard to win the Greatest Spectacle In Racing.
Andretti Global’s Marcus Ericsson in the No.28 Allegra Honda came home second while it was a remarkable race for AJ Foyt Racing’s David Malukas who ended the race in third.
The race had it all with problems on pit-road for several drivers and teams.
There was disappointment once again for Pato O’Ward who came home in fourth place just ahead of Felix Rosenqvist and Kyle Kirkwood.
Santino Ferrucci had a solid race for AJ Foyt Racing as ended the event in eighth place just ahead of Christian Lundgaard.
The race ended under caution as Arrow McLaren’s Nolan Siegel crashed on the final lap.
After a fantastic race which saw him lead laps, Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Conor Daly in the No.76 ampm Chevrolet had to settle for tenth place.
Takuma Sato was one of the many drivers to have problems on pit-road as he over shot his pit box and came home in 11th place just ahead of Callum Ilott which is a great result for the Japanese driver given the fact he has two broken ribs.
Helio Castroneves ended the race in 13th just ahead of Devlin DeFrancesco and Louis Foster.
Nolan Siegel was classified in 16th place just ahead of Colton Herta and Ed Carpenter.
Will Power came home in 19th having started the race from 33rd place.
Graham Rahal was 20th just ahead of Marcus Armstrong and Jack Harvey. While one Ganassi driver was celebrating another, Scott Dixon had a disastrous race after he suffered a brake fire on the formation lap of the race and had to pit for repairs and ended the race three laps down.
To add salt to wounds, Dixon has a nine-place grid penalty for the next race in Detroit next week.
Josef Newgarden who was going three Indy 500’s in a row retired from the race with a fuel issue.
Ryan Hunter-Reay retired from the race but led for a while, RHR suffered a hybrid issue.
Kyle Larson’s attempt to do the double will have to wait as he retired from the race following a collision with Marco Andretti.
Sting Ray Robb and Kyffin Simpson also retired from the race as did pole sitter Robert who had problems on pit-road.
Rinus VeeKay had a brake failure on pit-road and retired from the race as did Alexander Rossi who suffered a fire on pit road. His fueler Mike Miller was burned during the incident but is otherwise ok.
Scott McLaughlin never started the race as he crashed on the formation lap while heating his tires.
Palou now has a whopping 115 point lead in the championship over Pato O’Ward in second.
In the Manufacturers championship, Honda Racing Corporation holds a 122 point lead over Chevrolet.
