Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou in the No.10 Segi.TV Honda took his maiden NTT IndyCar Series victory on his debut for the team as the 2021 season got underway at Barber Motorsports Park and came home just ahead of Team Penske’s Will Power and defending series champion and Palou’s teammate Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda.
Polesitter Pato O’Ward in the No.5 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet came home in fourth place just ahead of Sebastien Bourdais in the No.14 ROKiT Chevrolet for AJ Foyt Racing while Rinus VeeKay came home in sixth place just ahead of Graham Rahal.
Marcus Ericsson ran out of fuel and came home in eighth place in the No.15 Honda just ahead of Alexander Rossi while rookie, Romain Grosjean rounded out the top ten.
Speaking following the race, Palou said that a win was possible over the off-season, the team did an amazing job, it is amazing to be a part of the winning team.
Jack Harvey came home 11th just ahead of Simon Pagenaud and Takuma Sato while Scott McLaughlin was 14th just ahead of Ed Jones and Conor Daly while James Hinchcliffe came home in 17th place just ahead of Dalton Kellett and Jimmie Johnson. Max Chilton was 20th.
It was a disappointing race for Colton Herta, Ryan Hunter Reay, Josef Newgarden and Felix Rosenqvist who were caught up in a first-lap crash at Turn 5. Next up is the Firestone Grand Prix of St Pete next weekend.
