Roger Penske goes to the Verizon IndyCar Series season finale GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma in 10 days time knowing that his team will be crowned champions.
Series points leader Simon Pagenaud who has led the championship from the second race of the year has been completely dominant this season having four victories to his name along with six Verizon P1 Awards.
The Frenchman goes into the series decider with a 43 point lead over team mate Will Power who is in second place.
Roger Penske’s cars have won nine of the 15 races this season with Helio Castroneves the only one of his drivers yet to take a victory this season. Penske has amassed 20 podium finishes this season with a Penske driver failing to step on the podium in just two races this season, the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway and the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
Team Penske go in to the race in Sonoma with there being a very real possibility that they could do a clean sweep 1,2,3 in the championship as Helio Castroneves who drives the No.3 Hitachi Chevrolet is in fourth place in the standings equal on points with reigning series champion Scott Dixon.
Speaking to Paddock Eye following Sunday’s race at the glen, Simon Pagenaud said that he just wanted the season to be over.
Despite his points lead, the Frenchman is not taking anything for granted as he knows anything can happen. For Roger Penske, the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series championship will be his first since Will Power won the title in 2014.
