Team Penske owner Roger Penske has confirmed that he wants his Verizon IndyCar Series driver, Helio Castroneves who drives the No.3 Hitachi Chevrolet to join Juan Pablo Montoya in his sports car team should ‘The Captain’ decide to enter the IMSA racing series.

Castroneves has been with Team Penske for years in the Verizon IndyCar Series and has won three Indianapolis 500 victories but has never won an IndyCar title.

Penske says that if they do decide to create a sportscar programme that Juan Pablo Montoya will be part of the project and that he will probably run Helio Castroneves alongside Montoya.

When Penske sat down with Montoya to discuss this year, Penske set out his plan for the Colombian and Montoya who had wanted to stay full-time in the Verizon IndyCar Series was happy with the terms of his new deal as it gives him the freedom to work on his son’s career.

Montoya will drive a fifth Team Penske Chevrolet for the month of May in both the Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis 500.
