The BWT Racing Point F1 Team’s Sergio Perez led the opening practice session on Friday morning ahead of Sunday’s Styrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The Mexican driver set a fastest time of 01:04.867s ending the session just ahead of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen and the Mercedes duo of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.
Lance Stroll in the second Racing Point was fifth fastest just ahead of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Alex Albon. Stroll was 0.529s behind his team mate.
McLaren F1’s Carlos Sainz was 7th just ahead of Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly and Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo. Sebastian Vettel rounded out the top ten in his Ferrari 0.903s behind Perez. Alpha Tauri’s Daniil Kyvat was 11th just ahead Charles Leclerc im the second Ferrari. Esteban Ocon was 13th just ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris.
Kimi Raikkonen was 15th for the Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN Formula One Team just ahead of Romain Grosjean and Williams reserve driver Jack Aitkin.
Robert Kubica was 18th just ahead of Nicholas Latifi while Kevin Magnussen rounded out the order for the Haas F1 Team. Free Pracrice 2 could determine the grid for Sunday’s race as Paddock Eye understands that Saturday’s qualifying is set to be a washout.
