Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez took a brilliant victory in what was a chaotic Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku circuit on Sunday following an extremely dramatic day. Perez came home just ahead of Sebastian Vettel who scored his and the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team’s first podium finish of the season in second place.
Scuderia Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly came home in third place just ahead of Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris. Fernando Alonso had a great day for Alpine coming home in sixth just ahead of Yuki Tsunado and Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo was ninth while Kimi Raikkonen scored his first point of the season in tenth place.
Pirelli suffered two tyre failures as Max Verstappen suffered a left rear failure and was forced to retire as did Lance Stroll who suffered the same issue and as a result Pirelli and F1 will launch an investigation.
Antonio Giovinazzi came home in eleventh just ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Nicholas Latifi who had to serve a ten-second stop go penalty.
Mick Schumacher was 14th just ahead of Nikitia Mazepin. Lewis Hamilton was was classified in 16th after locking up on the restart of the race after the event was red flagged.
As a result of their retirements, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton head to France with the same points as they had going into this race and it is the first time 55 races that Hamilton has failed to score points.
