Fernando Alonso has a lot of options open to him following this afternoon’s news that he will not race in Formula One next season.

The Spaniard who is heading to Silverstone with Toyota Gazoo Racing for the Six Hours of Silverstone FIA WEC event, round three of the 2018/19 season could join IndyCar full-time in 2019 or if he wins the World Endurance Championship he could remain with Toyota for 2019/20.

The double Formula One world champion has been linked with a full-time move to the IndyCar Series in 2019 and in the press release from McLaren it just said that he was living the Formula One team and there was no mention of him leaving McLaren altogether.

Alonso who is considered one of the best Formula One drivers has proven himself to be a great all round driver over the last two years having been extremely competitive in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 last year with Andretti Autosport in partnership with McLaren and then this season with Toyota Gazoo Racing winning the 24 Hours of LeMans.
