Police in Auckland, New Zealand have dropped an investigation in world champion Lewis Hamilton due insufficient evidence.

The reigning world champion while on a visit to New Zealand prior to arriving in Australia for the opening Formula One race of the season posted video footage of himself riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle while on a motorway in Auckland.

It is illegal in New Zealand to use a mobile phone in New Zealand, however police dropped the case because there were unable to determine whether or not the three time world champion was holding his phone. A police spokesman confirmed that Hamilton could in fact have been filming using a hands free device which is legal in New Zealand.
